Michael Gaines, Owner/Head Coach
Michael has been a CrossFitter for seven years, and specializes in strength training and athletic development. People are the best part of his job. “I am passionate about showing people they can do and create anything they can imagine,” he says. “I love the relationships we build and connection we share as we accomplish more and more over time.”
Michael’s athletic background includes four years of high school football and lacrosse, 2nd Place in the 2012 Maryland State Powerlifting Championships (75kg Division), 1st Place in the 2013 Maryland Push Pull Challenge (Bench Only Champion, 75kg Division), 1st Place in the 2013 Maryland State Powerlifting Championships (82.5kg Division), and participation in the 2012 Frederick Half Marathon and 2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon (with “Mawmaw!”).
Michael was actually not a CrossFit fan in his early days. “I was the biggest CrossFit hater in the gym and thought I was super fit and could out-bench and squat everyone I knew,” he says. “Then, someone challenged me to Fran. I had never heard of Fran before, and it took me eight minutes to complete and two hours to recover from. That night, I decided that I should learn more about what it is instead of just talking trash about it.”
When he’s not in the gym, Michael loves to read and spend time with his wife, Heather, and son, William. His favorite inspirational saying: “This is the simplest and most basic component of life: Our struggles determine our successes.” – Mark Manson
